IdealismIt seems reckless, with a name like Kant (which can so easily be turned into an expletive), to take up the task of undermining two of the biggest names in philosophy. And yet, this is exactly what the Transcendental Aesthetic does. For as the Cecidomyiidae(1) larvae must devour its mother’s flesh to exit the womb into life, Kant’s Idealism must likewise consume both Descartes’ and Berkeley’s if it is to secure the strength to survive in this demanding world. InductionWhen first introduced to Hume, I didn’t like him. I went to shake his hand and he gave me a high-5. I shot him a really awkward look and he tried to play it off like he was teaching me the problem of induction by showing how things don’t always happen as you’d expect them to. But we both know that he’s just one of those awkward old men who are destined to fascination with a pop-culture hopelessly beyond the reach of their comprehension.
